Ingredients

30 servings
  1. 1 package (2 7/8 ounce)whole shelled filberts (about 2 1/2 dozen)
  2. 1/2 cupbutter or margarine or 1 cup kosher for Passover parev margarine
  3. When using matzo cake meal use 1 cup parve margarine
  4. 1/4 cupsifted confectioners sugar (or kosher for Passover confectioners sugar)
  5. When using matzo cake meal use 1/2 cup confectioner's sugar
  6. 1 teaspoonvanilla
  7. 1 1/4 cupsifted all-propose flour (or matzoh cake meal that has been reground in a food processor then sifted)

Steps

30 mins
  1. 1

    Toast filberts in 325° oven for 10 minutes.

  2. 2

    Brown butter in saucepan

  3. 3

    Add confectioners sugar and vanilla.

  4. 4

    Cool.

  5. 5

    Blend in flour

  6. 6

    Shape a rounded teaspoon of dough around each nut, forming balls.

  7. 7

    Bake on ungreased cookie sheet at 325° for 20 minutes.

  8. 8

    Cool slightly on sheet; remove.

  9. 9

    When cool, sift confectioners sugar over cookies.
