Ingredients

8 servings
  1. dough
  2. 500 gramsflour
  3. 1 pinchsalt
  4. 80 gramsmargarine
  5. 80 gramsicing sugar
  6. 1egg yolk
  7. 1 packagesdry yeast
  8. 250 mlmilk
  9. 40 gramsraisins
  10. topping
  11. 1egg yolk
  12. 1coarse sugar for decorating

Steps

    Mix yeast and flour.

  2. 2

    Heat margarine until it melts.

  3. 3

    In a large bowl combine all the ingredients (for the dough). Then cover the bowl and let the dough raise in a warm place until it reaches double size.

    On a large floured surface separate the dough into 8 pieces, which you separate again into three pieces each.

  5. 5

    Roll each piece and plait every three rolls like pigtails.

  6. 6

    Let the mini-striezels rest on a baking tray another time for about 30 minutes.

  7. 7

    Then spread them with the egg yolk and sprinkle with sugar. (The egg yolk will make it deliciously golden when baked)

  8. 8

    Bake in pre-heated oven (180°C) for 15 minutes.

  9. 9

    Your Austrian dessert is ready! It's kind of a sweet bread and in Austria we make them around All Saint's Day. Good luck!
