Preheat Oven 400

Lightly grease pan with butter

Cover bottom of pan with potatoes.

Sprinkle on cheese.

Layer potatoes and sprinkle more cheese.

Use salt to mash garlic into a paste.

Add garlic and pepper to cream.

Pour cream mixture over potatoes pressing lightly to cover potatoes with cream.

Cover with foil and bake until cheese is absorbed into potatoes and potatoes are tender when pierced with a knife.

Remove foil and bake until mixture is bubbly and the top is golden brown. About 10 min.

Remove from oven and let rest.
