  • 4 ozpenne pasta
  • 1 mediumhead cauliflower, cut into florets
  • 3/4 cupmilk
  • 1/4 cupheavy cream
  • 2 largeeggs
  • 1/2 tspsalt
  • 1/4 tspcayennepepper
  • 3 cupshredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 tbspdijon mustard
  • 2 tbsproom temperature butter

  1. 1

    prepare pasta according to package. drain & set aside. meanwhile, steam cauliflower in steamer basket over boiling water for 5 minutes. drain & set aside

  2. 2

    whisk milk, cream, eggs, salt & cayenne in large heavy-bottomed saucepan, stir in cheese & mustard. set over medium heat

  3. 3

    add pasta, cauliflower & butter, cook stirring constantly until sauce gets thick & smooth, about 5 minutes. meanwhile, heat broiler & place rack in medium of oven

  4. 4

    transfer pasta to 8 inch square or 9 inch round ovensafe dish. broil for 2-3 minutes just until crust develops. serve immediately
