Sweet Vermicelli Porridge !!!
A very sweet porridge from south India also known as Semiya Payasam here.. delicious and a taste you will never forget B-)
Cooking Instructions
- 1
In a deep bottom pan heat the ghee and add Roasted vermicelli and saute well . (1 min or so will be enough)
- 2
To this add add water and milk and then sugar, Cashew, raisin , cardomom and cloves and let it boil. Keep stirring the pot ! (no pun intended :D)
- 3
After boiling , let it simmer on a low flame and keep stirring till the vermicilli is cooked well. you may add more milk in case it dry up, the vermicilli has a tendency to soak up the liquid. Taste and if required add more sugar
- 4
finally add the condensed milk and stir to mix it well. This gives the porridge a thick and delicious feel... :)
- 5
Put of the flame and serve in a desert bowl.
- 6
The best thing abt this dish is that it can be served hot or chilled (after refrigerating for a few hours) :) mmmm... i love it
- 7
add cinnamon powder on top while serving, if you are a cinnamon lover

Fermented brown porridge or "Uji" or Ucuru wa mukio is an authentic Kenyan dish. Lots of people love it, however, some complain that it tastes sour. Here is a recipe that will add a sweet twist to your Uji but still keep it healthy! This may look like a small portion, but it is VERY filling! You can buy fermented porridge in any leading supermarket in Kenya. I purchased mine from Uchumi.Miss Josefina

Sweet potato porridge (for babies/toddlers) Sweet potato porridge (for babies/toddlers)
Sweet potatoes are an excellent source of vitamin A (in the form of beta-carotene). They are also a very good source of vitamin C, manganese, copper, pantothenic acid and vitamin B6. Additionally, they are a good source of potassium, dietary fiber, niacin, vitamin B1, vitamin B2 and phosphorus. This porridge is ideal for all age groups but especially yummy and nutritious for growing babies A Chef and A Mom -

Beef & Vegetable Porridge Beef & Vegetable Porridge
This is the Korean dish called Soegogi-yachaejuk. It is mild in taste, not spicy. It is a hearty, filling main dish. You need to use a starchy, short grained rice for it to reach the proper thickness. They use what is called sweet rice typically, but arborio is easier to find, so I use that. Give it a try, you will like it. Fo Fa -
Simple rice porridge Simple rice porridge
This is a very simple rice porridge that I make for when someone in my family gets sick. It's very simple and should be easy to digest and with minimal flavour. You can optionally drop an egg in and poach it for extra protein. 蛟龍Stormwyrm -
Mushroom Porridge Mushroom Porridge
I use short grain type. There is also a certain depth of flavor infused in the ingredients and rice porridge. I’m guessing the porridge is cooked in a stock instead of water and the ingredients are cooked separately before adding into the porridge. Not forgetting the generous usage of my favorite aromatic toasted sesame oil. Chef Marie Ruth Roman -

Mango Daliya/ Mango porridge Mango Daliya/ Mango porridge
Mango Dalia is a sweet porridge made with broken wheat, milk and mangoes. My mother used to make this sweet porridge for breakfast and I used to save some and had it after dinner as a dessert. It is a great way to use mangoes which are very healthy and nutritious. I don't use any sweetner for this Dalia as mango puree provides the sweetness and creamy texture as well. But sometimes the mangoes are not sweet enough and you have to add a little sugar or any other sweetner to enhance the taste. This porridge is a great way to start your day. Broken wheat provides all the benefits of a grain, mangoes provide the nutrients of a fruit and milk is a great source of calcium and protein. Together they make a complete healthy breakfast meal. It is good for growing kids also. This one pot meal can be prepared in advance and can be kept in the refrigerator for 6-7 hours. It tastes best when served chilled. #CookClick Sumeet Kaur (Recipes and more by Sumi) -
