Steps
- 1
FOR THE CHOCOLATE CAKE BATTER.Beat the margarine and sugar together until light and fluffy. Add two eggs and beat well. Add the vanilla. Fold in 440ml of the flour, baking powder, cocoa powder, pinch of salt, alternating with the milk. Mix well into soft batter.
- 2
Spoon into a greased loaf tin and bake in a 170°C preheated oven for 50-60 minutes. A skewer inserted should come out clean. Remove from the oven and let it cool completely. Then refrigerate to firm up.
- 3
Slice the loaf into 2cm slices, use a heart shaped cutter to cut the heart from the middle of each slice. Set the hearts aside.
- 4
FOR THE VANILLA BATTER. Prepare Vanilla Batter in the same way you prepared for the Chocolate batter but DO NOT ADD THE COCOA POWDER. Spread the third of the vanilla batter into the greased loaf tin, place the chocolate hearts upright in the centre of the batter, packing them closely to each other.
- 5
Spoon the remaining vanilla batter on top of the hearts to cover them completely. Bake on a 175°C preheat oven for 45-55 minutes. Remove and cool.
- 6
Place icing sugar in a bowl, add water, a little at a time, mix together to form a smooth spreadable consistency. Spread over the cake and decorate with pieces of white chocolate or sugar flowers.
