Ingredients

  • 2 tbspyogurt
  • 1/2 tbspchilli powder
  • 1/2 tspturmeric
  • 500 gmschicken
  • 1 tspsalt
  • 1 tspDry Chettinad Masala
  • 3whole dry chillies
  • 1 tbspcoriander seeds
  • 3green cardamoms
  • 1/2 tbspcumin seed
  • 1 tbspFennel seeds
  • 3cloves
  • 6pepper corn
  • 2 tbsppoppy seeds
  • 1/2cinnamon stick
  • 1-2 tspWet masala paste
  • 2onion
  • 1/2 inchginger piece
  • 5-6 clovesgarlic
  • 2small Tomatoes
  • 1/2 cupfreshly grated coconut
  • 2 tbspwater as required

Steps

  1. 1

    Clean chicken thoroughly and add 1/2 tsp salt, red chilli powder, turmeric and yogurt keep it covered in the refrigerator for 30 minutes

  2. 2

    Dry roast all the ingredients for dry chettinad masala till they start to emit the aroma.

  3. 3

    Allow it to cool and grind to make powder masala. Keep it aside

  4. 4

    Dry roast the coconut and grind together all ingredients of wet masala paste and set aside

  5. 5

    Heat oil in a thick bottomed pan and add wet masala paste in it.
    6. Cook it on medium heat till masala starts sticking to the bottom of

  6. 6

    When masala is cooked, add marinated chicken pieces to it mix well.

  7. 7

    Cover and let it cook 5 minutes

  8. 8

    Add dry chettinad masala powder and stir the content of pan so that chicken is coated well with the masala. Finally, add water and 1/2 tsp salt.

  9. 9

    Cover and cook chicken for 15-20 minutes. Keep stirring in between to prevent chicken from sticking to the bottom
