Ingredients

  1. 1 CupToor Dal
  2. 1/4 CupChana Dal
  3. 2 1/2 CupsWater
  4. 1/2Medium Sized Tomato, Chopped
  5. 1 TspSalt
  6. 1/2 TspTurmeric Powder
  7. 1 TspGinger, Chopped
  8. 1 TbspOnions, Chopped
  9. 2 TbspGhee / Oil
  10. Tadka (Tempering)
  11. 1 TspCumin Seeds
  12. 1 TspGinger, Finely Chopped
  13. 1 TbspGarlic, Finely Chopped
  14. 1/2 CupOnion, Chopped
  15. PinchOf Asafoetida
  16. 1 TspGreen Chilies, Finely Chopped
  17. 1/2 CupTomatoes, Chopped
  18. Red Chilli Powder As Per Taste
  19. 1 TspCoriander Powder
  20. 1 TspGaram Masala Powder
  21. 1 TbspKasuri Methi
  22. To TasteSalt
  23. 1 TbspCoriander Leaves, Chopped

Steps

30 Minutes
  1. 1

    Rinse the dal. In a pressure cooker add the rinsed dal, turmeric powder, salt, tomatoes, chopped ginger, chopped onions, and water.

  2. 2

    Pressure cook for 4 whistles. Allow the steam to escape before opening the lid.
    Open the lid and whisk dal. Keep it aside.

  3. 3

    Heat ghee in a pan.
    Add cumin seeds and let them splitter.

  4. 4

    Now add the ginger, garlic and sauté for a minute.

  5. 5

    Add onions and saute until the onions are golden brown.
    Now add a pinch of asafetida, and chopped green chilies, and sauté for a minute.

  6. 6

    Now add the chopped tomatoes and let it cook for 3-4 minutes.

  7. 7

    Now add 1/2 cup of water and let it boil for another 2 minutes.

  8. 8

    Ass red chilli powder, coriander powder, garam masala powder, kasuri methi, coriander leaves and salt.

  9. 9

    Mix well and let it cook for 3 minutes.
    Now transfer the pressure cooked dal into this tadka masala and mix properly.

    Serve hot with paratha or chapati.
