Ingredients

30 minutes
  1. 6 1/3 cupswhole milk (about 1.5 liters)
  2. 1 1/2 cupsshort-grain rice (Egyptian or similar, uncooked and unwashed)
  3. 1 1/2 cupssugar
  4. 3 tablespoonsclotted cream or heavy cream
  5. 1 teaspoonvanilla powder

Steps

30 minutes
  1. 1

    Pour the milk into a pot and heat over the stove until it comes to a boil.

  2. 2

    Add the sugar, rice, vanilla, and cream to the milk.

  3. 3

    Stir the mixture and let it boil again over high heat.

  4. 4

    Once it boils, reduce the heat to low. You can place a heat diffuser under the pot if you like.

  5. 5

    Cover the pot and cook for about 30 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the milk has thickened.

  6. 6

    Spoon the mixture into small glass bowls and let it cool, then refrigerate until chilled.
