Soak akkha masoor in water for about 2-3 hours

After the masoor is soaked, shift it to a cooker and pour 3 cups of water. Slit the green chillies and add it to the cooker along with roughly chopped tomatoes. Add haldi and a little salt. Cook the dal till 2 whistles and pressure cook for two minutes.

For tadka- take a different vessel. Heat oil. Add jeera. Add chopped garlic and ginger and give it a stir. Add hing and stir again. Wait for it to get golden brown and then add the chopped onions.

After the chopped onions are golden, add coriander powder, chilli powder and a little salt (remember that u put salt in the cooker before). Stir until the flavour starts to ooze out.

Opens the cooker and stir the cooked dal. Add the tadka into the cooked dal. (Do not expect crackling sound). Add one cup water and heat dal till it comes to boil.

Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.

Serve hot with roti or rice.
