Ingredients

  1. 2 cupFor dough whole wheat flour/maida
  2. 2 tspoil
  3. Pinchsalt
  4. 1 cupFor filling: tur (arhar)daal wash and drained
  5. 1 & 1/4 cupschopped jaggery (Gur)
  6. 5-6strands saffron (kesar)
  7. 2 tbspghee
  8. 1/4 tspcardamom powder (elaichi)
  9. 1 tsppoppy seeds (khuskhus)
  10. 1 tbspgrated coconut
  11. as neededOther ingredients:-whole wheat flour for rolling
  12. as neededGhee for smearing

Steps

  1. 1

    For the dough:-Combine the flour and oil in a bowl and knead into a soft dough using enough water.

    Divide the dough into a equal portions and keep aside.

  3. 3

    For filling:-Dissolve the saffron in a 2tsp water in a bowl.

  4. 4

    Mix well and keep aside for 15 to 20 minutes.

  5. 5

    Combine the daal with 1&1/2 cups of water in a pressure cooker and pressure cook for 3 whistles.

    Allow the steam to escape before opening the lid.

  7. 7

    Heat the ghee in a broad non stick pan, add the dal and jiggery mix well and cook for 10 to 12 minutes on a medium flame till the mixture thickens.

  8. 8

    Stirring continuously and add the cardamom powder, grated coconut, and poppy seeds, saffron water and mix well.

  9. 9

    Cool slightly and divide it into a equal portions. Keep aside.

  10. 10

    Make small balls of the dough.

  11. 11

    Roll out each into a 4cms disc using a little wheat flour for rolling.

  12. 12

    Put a small ball of the dal mixture in the centre.

  13. 13

    Form into a ball roll out into a 10cms disc.

  14. 14

    Cook on a griddle pan on a medium flame till brown spots appear on both sides.

    Smear a little ghee on each puran poli and serve with other Menu.
