Quick & Simple Goulash

When I was a young bachelor, one of the first recipes I learned to make in a pinch for time was this really simple goulash-like recipe. It's delicious as is but is also very accommodating to any other ingredient you wish to add. Other than chili powder and salt, seasonings are optional.

Ingredients

30 minutes
4-6 servings
  1. 1.5 lbground beef
  2. 2 cansdiced tomatoes, approx 30oz
  3. 1 tbspchili powder
  4. 5 clovesgarlic, or approx 2 tsp granulated garlic
  5. 1 tsppaprika
  6. 1 tspblack pepper
  7. Pinchsugar
  8. to tasteSalt
  9. .5 tspcayenne pepper
  10. 1 cupwater
  11. 2 cupsmacaroni noodle

Cooking Instructions

30 minutes
  1. 1

Brown meat over high heat with a pinch of salt until most of the water has evaporated.

  2. 2

If using fresh garlic, add for a minute to sweat a little. Otherwise add the granulated garlic along with the chili powder, paprika, black and cayenne pepper and let cook for just a minute to wake up the spice aromas.

  3. 3

Add diced tomatoes, sugar, and cup of water, then bring to a low boil on medium high heat. There should be slightly to much liquid so you can reduce it for the next 15 minutes. If it gets too dry, add a little water.

  4. 4

Boil water for noodles. I like to add salt and olive oil to the water as it comes to a boil. Once boil is reached, add noodles.

  5. 5

Boil until just before noodles are done. The liquid in the porridge will finish them. Otherwise they tend to be overcooked. Drain the noodles and combine with the porridge.

  6. 6

Let stand a few minutes, then serve.
