Ingredients

20-25 mins
2-3 servings
  1. 4 small bowls (around 150gms)Rice -
  2. 100 gmsghee
  3. 5 small bowls (around 180 gms)Without chilka yellow moong daal -
  4. 10-12whole black pepper
  5. 5-6 inchginer finely chopped or grated
  6. as neededFew cashew pieces
  7. 1/2 tspJeera seeds
  8. 5-6Whole red chillies
  9. 5-6Curry leaves
  10. 1 tspHaldi powder (optional)
  11. as per tasteSalt -
  12. For chutney -
  13. 1/2 cup chana daal,
  14. 1/2 cup raw peanuts
  15. 3-4whole red chillies
  16. 5-6 garlic pods
  17. as neededFew tamarind pieces
  18. For tadka to chutney -
  19. 5-6curry leaves,
  20. 1/2 tspmustard seeds,
  21. 2-3 tsp oil

Steps

20-25 mins
  1. 1

    Soak moong deal and rice in above mentioned quantity for 4-5 hrs

    Keep all dry ingredients ready

    In a cooker,add ghee,once hot add jeera,chopped ginger, and black pepper

    When sauted,next add in water,daal,rice,salt and haldi(optional).Water should be 4 times of daal and rice.

    Take around 4-5 whistles in high flame then lower the flame for another 5 minutes.Switch off the gas.

    Next add in the tadka of cashews,curry leaves,red chillies

    Pongal is ready

    For chutney- saute chana daal,peanuts, garlic,red chillies and tamarind.

    Add salt and grind

    Give a fresh tadka of fresh curry leaves and mustard seeds

    Serve hot with drizzle of ghee and chutney
