Oven BBQ ribs

This recipe is almost too easy, it’s almost like cheating! You literally can’t go wrong, the worst that can happen is your ribs are a bit TOO tender (is too tender even a thing?). I’d highly recommend this recipe if you have a couple hours to spare.

The ribs become tender due to the long cooking time at low heat, kind of like how pulled pork becomes pull apart tender.

Steps

  1. 1

Preheat the oven to 120C. This heat might seem low, but it’s sufficient for cooking the meat as long as cooking time is appropriate.

  2. 2

Remove the membrane from the back of the ribs. I like to use a spoon to get under the membrane and a kitchen towel to grip the membrane. I would recommend watching a video of someone doing this on YouTube, it’ll be much clearer.

  3. 3

Apply the dry rub liberally all around the meat. Press it in to prevent it from fall off when moving to the oven.

  4. 4

Cover a baking tray with aluminum foil to make cleanup easy, then wrap the ribs in a pouch of foil. This keeps the moisture in whilst cooking to prevent them from drying out.

  5. 5

Bake for 2 hours in the foil membrane facing up. Then carefully unwrap it and apply a layer of bbq sauce to both sides. The membrane side should now be facing down. Reseal the pouch and cook for 30 more minutes.

  6. 6

Finally, unwrap the foil on top and apply a layer of bbq sauce to the top of the ribs. Broil/grill under high heat to caramelize the bbq sauce, then remove the ribs from the oven and allow to cool for 5 minutes before eating.
