Chikuwa Flowers Chikuwa Flowers
My mother used to always put these in her osechi (New Year's feast food) as well as in sports festival bentos.Take care not to cut the chikuwa apart when opening them up and making cuts in them. When making the cuts and rolling the chikuwa, it tends to want to bend over the other way, so hold it down firmly with 4 fingers to cut, and wrap while holding the edges. Braided Chikuwa Flowers Braided Chikuwa Flowers
When I was thinking of things to make for bentos, I thought of braided bread, and tried making something similar with chikuwa fish sticks. Once it was braided it curled up with a hole in the middle, which I stuffed with a ham flower. (Is it human psychology to want to fill up holes.) Personally, I quite like itIf you make the braid while evening out the sides, it will turn out very neatly. To start with, try securing the braid with toothpicks. When you get used to making these you can just secure with a bento pick. For 2 braided flowers made out of 1 chikuwa fish stick. Recipe by A-jin cookpad.japan -

Deluxe Kamaboko Flowers Deluxe Kamaboko Flowers
These are flowers made from kamaboko that has been thinly sliced with a vegetable peeler. Using thinly-sliced cucumber adds a little extra touch.I added some green to this recipe with cucumber as a garnish (Kamaboko Flowers Using a Vegetable Peeler. In the photo, I used leaves to make them look like flowers. If you curl and shape them well, you won't need a toothpick to make them stand on their own. Feel free to do the same with ham or fish sausage. Recipe by Mikki-an cookpad.japan -
