Cornflakes chivda is a healthier version to our usual chivda. It is made out of cornflakes, kurmura, potato chips, chanadal, moong beans and nuts. It is a very delicious and healthy snack to be served during this festive season.

Ingredients

  1. 2 cupscornflakes
  2. 1 cupkurmura
  3. 1/4 cupchana dal
  4. 1/4 cupmoong beans
  5. 2potatoes
  6. 2 tbspgroundnuts
  7. 10 slicedry coconut
  8. 10almonds
  9. 10cashew nuts
  10. 1 tablespoonraisin
  11. As requiredOil to fry
  12. ForTadka :
  13. 1 tablespoonoil
  14. 1 inchcinnamon
  15. 3cloves
  16. 1/4 tsp mustard seeds
  17. 1/4 tsp hing/ asafoetida
  18. 10-15curry leaves
  19. 1/2 tsp fennel seeds
  20. 1 tspsesame seeds
  21. 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  22. 1.5 tsp chilli powder
  23. 2 tsppowder sugar (optional)
  24. to tasteSalt

Cooking Instructions

    Soak chana dal and moong beans separately for 6 to 8 hours or overnight.

    Wash, peel and grate potatoes. Wash it once with water then soak it in the clean water for 30 minutes. Drain the water and put the grated potato on a cotton cloth to remove excess water.

    Fry potato chips on high heat until crisp and light brown in colour. Drain chana dal and moong beans and put it in a cotton cloth to drain excess water. Fry chana dal and moong beans also on high heat until crisp and light brown.

    Fry groundnuts, coconut slices, almond and cashew nuts on medium heat. Do not fry raisins.

    Heat 1 teaspoon oil and add some turmeric powder and salt to it then add kurmura to it and mix it well.

    Now in a big bowl, add everything along with cornflakes and mix it well.

    To prepare tadka, heat oil and add cinnamon and cloves to it. Now add mustard seeds and allow it to crackle. Add hing, curry leaves and turn off the heat. Add sesame seeds, fennel seeds, turmeric powder and chilli powder to it. Add this tadka to the chivda and mix everything well. Add powdered sugar and salt to chivda and give it a good mix. Taste and adjust the seasoning. Chilli powder and sugar can be adjusted according to your preference.

    Store in an airtight container. It can stay fresh for 10 to 15 days in an airtight container.
