These are a special treat, perfect with a lovely steak or some duck. Creamy slices of potato with a delicate flavour of garlic with golden nutty Gruyère cheese on top. A joy to eat. In this version I use half the amount of cream to save on calories, but they are still delicious - the end result just isn't as wet in texture and more set.

Ingredients

1 hour 15 mins
2 people
  1. 520 gvery finely sliced potatoes (2mm thin rounds),
  2. 150 mlsingle cream,
  3. 100 mlwhole milk,
  4. 1/2 tspgarlic purée paste,
  5. 1/2 tspDijon mustard,
  6. White pepper and salt to season
  7. Grated Gruyère cheese to top

Cooking Instructions

1 hour 15 mins
  1. 1

Preheat your oven to 200 (fan). As the potatoes are sliced so thinly I like to leave the skin on, however you can peel them if preferred. Lay the potatoes neatly and overlapping slightly into your oven proof dish(es). Make the potatoes 4 slices deep, if you have a smaller dish and need to layer them deeper, then you'll need to increase the overall cooking time.

  2. 2

In a bowl add the cream and milk and season with white pepper and salt. Add the mustard and garlic. Stir. Pour over the sliced potatoes.

  3. 3

Cover the potatoes in grated Gruyère cheese. Bake in the oven for approx 30 mins then turn the oven down to 180 (fan), continue to bake for another 30 mins or until the potatoes are tender and the cheese is deeply golden with crisp caramalised edges. Serve and enjoy! :)
