Shakshuka the Kids Love

Shakshuka is a middle eastern dish of eggs poached in a spicy tomato sauce. This one uses canned tomatoes and spicy flavours my 5 men love. (I don't measure when I cook, so amounts are approximations.)

Shakshuka is a middle eastern dish of eggs poached in a spicy tomato sauce. This one uses canned tomatoes and spicy flavours my 5 men love. (I don't measure when I cook, so amounts are approximations.)
Cooking Instructions
- 1
Preheat oven to 375ᵒ.
- 2
Heat a 14" (5.5 qt.) deep sauté pan over medium-low heat. Add enough oil to coat bottom and sauté onions until translucent and starting to brown (7-10 minutes).
- 3
Add in garlic and all spices and cook another 2 minutes.
- 4
Pour in cans of tomatoes, add bay leaves, turn up heat to medium-high and cook until mixture starts to bubble, stirring occasionally (8-10 minutes).
- 5
When mixture is bubbling, make a depression with the back of the spoon and carefully crack an egg into it. Repeat until all the eggs are in the pot. Cover, turn heat to medium-low, and poach eggs until desired doneness (10-15 minutes).
- 6
While the eggs are cooking, brush the outside of the baguettes with water and put them in the oven for 5 minutes. Cut into thirds.
- 7
Spoon 2 eggs and tomato mixture into bowls and top with grated cheese if desired. Serve with baguette.

Easy eggs and tomatoes breakfast dish (shakshuka) Easy eggs and tomatoes breakfast dish (shakshuka)
The shakshuka is a common middle eastern dish and is quite easy to make. It makes great hangover food and is basically a blank page to whatever you might want to add to it. I personally add tons of cheese, but you can use whatever's in your fridge! I'd suggest trying the basic recipe as it's listed here before changing it though. It's a great dish to make with kids! They love how colourful it is and that ypu can eat it with bread with your hands. I do have to warn you - it's highly addictive! tal156 -
