Italian Tiramisu

I learned this recipe with an Italian friend. I was hoping he would upload his own recipe to Allthecooks, but since he never did here it is!

Cooking Instructions
- 1
Beat the egg whites with the dash of salt until stiff. Save for later.
- 2
Beat egg yolks with sugar until you have a smooth and almost white cream
- 3
Add the mascarpone cheese and beat until smooth.
- 4
Add the egg whites you prepared before, and stir it carefully. You want the cream to be fluffy, like the egg whites.
- 5
To prepare the tiramisu, you will need a baking dish of about 9inx13in
- 6
Dip each lady finger quickly in coffee, then cover the bottom of the baking dish with them.
- 7
Spread half of the cream on top of the lady fingers.
- 8
Sift a thin layer of the cocoa powder.
- 9
Repeat steps 6 to 8. Two layers should be enough. And your tiramisu is ready!
- 10
Leave it in the fridge for at least 1 hours before serving.
- 11
Since the eggs are not cooked I suggest using Pasteurized eggs, or at least make sure your eggs are extremely fresh!

Store bought just doesn't make the cut. I had to make my own. It is easy but time consuming, the best things are worth the wait. This really does need to chill for 24 hours. If you can't wait it must be at least 12. Cooking the eggs over a double boiler takes a full 10 minutes but is vital. All steps truly make a masterpiece when finished. Taylor Topp Comacho -

This recipes is the result of a lot of trial and error. I've been making this for the past 10 years. This time, I made it for my hubby's 40th birthday. The strawberry compote is just a mix of strawberries and sugar simmered together. You could also make this the traditional way and sprinkle cocoa powder on top. I topped it with strawberry compote based on my hubby's request. Coating the biscuits with a generous amount of butter will make it crunchy. Recipe by Mon*chou-chou* cookpad.japan
