Sweet and Savory Gyudon (Beef Bowl)

My boy wanted some gyudon from a well-known restaurant chain. With the amount of money needed to buy two beef bowls there (my boy usually eats two portions!), I can make plenty for him and the rest of the family!

Homemade Yoshinoya-Style Gyudon (Beef Rice Bowl) Homemade Yoshinoya-Style Gyudon (Beef Rice Bowl)
My son loves Yoshinoya and used to go there a lot. (One reason is that we have one really close to our house...) I thought I could make it at home using cheap cuts of beef, and after several tries I got to this recipeWhen I finally got it right, so here it is!You start by making the caramel. The caramel doesn't have to be dark brown, just as long as it has some color. You don't have to add garlic, but ginger is essential or it won't taste right. A dash of white wine is the secret to Yoshinoya beef bowls. For 3 to 4 servings. Recipe by smapkayo cookpad.japan -

Sweet & Savory Pork Rice Bowl Sweet & Savory Pork Rice Bowl
Even if you're using cheap cuts of meat, the sauce will make this an exceptional dish. If you omit the ginger and pork, you'll have a regular pork rice bowl. Adding ginger and garlic makes a gingered pork rice bowl.Only use a thin coat of flour but don't omit it as it's vital for getting the sauce to stick to the meat.If you only have a little meat, add onion slices to bulk the dish.If you cut the amount of sauce in half, you can make regular gingered pork. Beef Tsukudani (Sweet and Salty Simmered Beef) Beef Tsukudani (Sweet and Salty Simmered Beef)
We received some beef tsukudani from a famous store some time ago as a gift. This recipe is my version of that. If you make a generous amount, you can turn leftovers into onigiri (rice balls) or ochazuke (rice with tea) the next day.Beef offcuts are the best to use for this, since it has a decent amount of fat but not too much. Too much fat makes this too oily, but too little makes it dry. We use a mixture of the fatty parts of wagyu beef and cheap imported beef. Please adjust the ginger, sugar and soy sauce amounts to your taste. I prefer it with lots of ginger. This lasts for 2 to 3 days in the refrigerator, so I always make a lot. For a generous amount to stock in your refrigerator. Recipe by Cha-miru cookpad.japan
