Bakwan sayur (vegetables friters)

Bakwan is Indonesian version of tempura. Just like making a tempura, you will need to decide on your ingredients, this usually consists of assortment of vegetables . And you will need to prepare your batter. The most common bakwan is the vegetables version, in which shredded cabbage and shredded carrot are the two most popular choice. But you can add any vegetables you like 🤗, and sometimes, whole shrimps are added on the top of bakwan and the resulting fritter is usually called bakwan udang (shrimps fritter), though technically it should properly be called bakwan sayur dan bakwan udang (vegetables fritter and shrimps fritter).

You can either use cabbage or green beans. Enjoy! 😋 Follow my Instagram @jenscookingdiary if you like my recipes 😊🙏🏻 jenscookingdiary -

#indonesianfood #vegetarian #veganfriendlyI was so craving with Indonesian deep fried snacks lately. I can used any vegetables that I have in my fridge, then just adding flour, season with seasoning, mix together and fry it. Sounds easy right? Indeed, it is easy.By the way actually in Indonesia there are many kind of vegetables fritters. But normally they have similar ingredients and seasoning but some other region has different way of how to fried. In East Java, they’re using ladle to shape the batter and deep frying it. It’s called Weci, Heci, or Ote-ote. In West Java they’re simply just dropping the batter with the spoon into the hot oil and fried it. It’s called Bala-bala. So this time I am going to make bala-bala and I am simply using West Java methods to frying the vegetables fritters. Okay... let’s check on the ingredients and how to make it. Nia Hiura -

Baby Corn Fritters Baby Corn Fritters
I used the coating from "Italian Tempura Fritters"and had fun with it to make a crispy and light coating for the vegetables. Please don't use cake flour, use bread flour. This is not difficult like making Japanese tempura. They will easily become crispy. Make sure to sprinkle with salt while they are still hot, otherwise the flavor won't be absorbed.
