Hai Friends.This sambar is instant Sidedish for Idlis and Dosas. It will not go well with rice. Here I'm using moong dal you can also use toor dal.

Ingredients

  1. 1/2 cupMoong Dal
  2. 1/3 cupTamarind extract
  3. 1Medium sized Tomato chopped
  4. 1Medium sized Onion chopped(You can also use Shallots)
  5. 1/4 tspTurmeric powder
  6. 2 tspSambar Powder
  7. leavesfew Curry
  8. leavesFew Coriander
  9. 4 tspGroundnut Oil
  10. 1/4 tspMustard seeds
  11. 5Fenugreek seeds
  12. 1/3 tspAsafoetida
  13. as per taste Salt
  14. as required Water

Cooking Instructions

    Wash and soak the dal for 30 mins. If using toor dal soak for 1 hour.

    In a stove place a cooker. Switch on the flame.

  3. 3

    Add oil. Once oil gets heat add mustard seeds,fenugreek, and asafoetida. Fry it.

  4. 4

    Add onions and curry leaves. Mix and cook till onions becomes translucent.

  5. 5

    Add chopped tomato, turmeric powder and sambar powder mix well. Cook for 2mins.

  6. 6

    Add the dal,mix well and then add tamarind extract. Add enough water and salt.

  7. 7

    Close the pressure cooker and leave for 8 whistles. For Toor dal 15 whistles.

    After the pressure goes off open and check for sambar consistency. If it has more water allow it to boil again.

  9. 9

    Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with idlis and dosas.
