Split Pea Soup with Ham

Split pea soup always reminds me of my mom's cooking. I wish I could make it as good as she can but this is my spin on her soup. Very thick soup.
Cooking Instructions
- 1
Add the water bouillon cubes, seasonings (oregano, bayleef, black pepper, cayenne pepper) and hambone together. Bring to a boil and then reduce to a simmer for the next at least hour with ham bone.
- 2
Carefully remove ham and remove any additional meat from the bone. If you have additional Ham on the side feel free to chop it small and put it into the mixture. If you can find the bay leaves remove the too.
- 3
Start chopping onions celery garlic and carrots. Add in the peas and stir frequently. Then adding the chopped vegetables. Continue to start frequently. To prevent from sticking to the bottom of the pot.
- 4
Reduced to a low simmer for the first hour stir frequently with the lid on and then the last hour remove lid peas should start thickening the soup and continue to stole frequently until the proper consistency you like and peas are tender.
- 5
Additional seasoning taste and serve.

A friend asked me to make her some Pea Soup with Ham. If she wants me to make something for her ( she works seven days a week taking care of people) , she provides most of the food items, I provide some and she will share with us. Candis Brooks -

Split Pea Soup Split Pea Soup
So... we ate this Christmas ham and there was a lot of meat leftover. I couldn’t bare to watch it get thrown away so I took it home. Could have just made some ham and cheese sandwiches or ham and potato salad but there was a bag of split peas screaming to be cooked. Now... feel free to substitute any of the vegetables... they’re basically going to be disintegrated anyway. I used what I had on hand. Karl -

We have been making pea soup in my family my entire life, but everyone else just used the peas and water. I like flavor and this soup has it for sure! Very hardy. Jen -
