Dal Khichdi is a perfect comfort food. It is very tempting and refreshing. Lovely dish to be had in summer. A protein rich food for little ones. One pot of comforting meal at any time.
Dal Khichdi is an Indian dish made with rice and lentils and spices and is garnished with tempering, fried onions and coriander leaves. It is served with pickle, papad, salad and yogurt. It is considered a wholesome and healthy food and is easy to digest. It is easy and quick to make. It is enjoyed best if the khichdi is served hot from the pot. Serve khichdi immediately otherwise it will become dry. If it turns dry, add little hot water and adjust the consistency. Ghee adds a good flavor and aroma, but if you are calorie conscious, use half ghee and half oil or just use only oil. I have used only masoor dal. You can make it with a mix of dals of your choice. You can add vegetables like peas, carrot, potato, beans and cauliflower to this khichdi.

Dal Khichdi ข้าวต้มอินเดีย Dal Khichdi ข้าวต้มอินเดีย
Childhood memories: Sunday was family day. Our traditional Sunday lunch would always include a fresh deep fried fish and Hasmo. This would be served on a thaal which is a big silver plate. “Hasmo” for us means mixing everything together. We’d mix the dhaal, rice , roti , fried chillies , kachumber (onion salad) together in the middle of the thaal and then make a tiny space to put the hot charcoal and then pour hot ghee over the mixture. We would then cover all with another big plate to smoke it. Once smoked we would all enjoy and eat together. It is a family food that I really miss!I would call this dish that I made today as ‘Hasmo’ but other people call it ‘Dal Khichdi’ or ‘Khichdi’This is how I made mine. M.A.DFoodie -

Masala Khichdi Masala Khichdi
Khichdi contains all essential vitamins because it uses rice, lentils, and vegetables. The real flavor of khichdi comes out when you add a tempering with ghee. Khichdi is very good for your health, and you should try to eat it at least once a week. Kids may not always like plain khichdi, but if you add some vegetables and spices, they’ll enjoy it too. I’ve added lots of vegetables and also used pav bhaji masala, which makes it even tastier. My whole family loves khichdi made this way—give it a try, I hope you’ll love it too!
