Cooking Instructions
- 1
Chop onions to desired size, chop bacon to about 1 inch squares, and grate carrot with cheese grater
- 2
Sauté onions with oil in instant pot for about 2 minutes, then toss in bacon 🥓 and cook until it’s the consistency of ham. They need not be crispy but you don’t want them rubbery.
- 3
Turn off the sauté function. Add split peas, chicken broth, ham hock, carrots 🥕, and pepper. Set instant pot to 25 minutes and cook.
- 4
Whisk hot soup before serving to break up clumps of split pea, there should be some stuck to the bottom of the pot, try not to reincorporate this into the soup. I garnished mine with fried rosemary garlic sourdough croutons.
- 5
Complete! Share a cooksnap & tell us what you thought!

VARIANT: replace the bacon and ham hock with a smoked turkey leg. After soup is cooked, remove turkey leg, pull meat from bone, and return meat to soup.

Instant Pot Vegan Split Pea Soup Instant Pot Vegan Split Pea Soup
Getting my kids to eat their veggies can be really challenging and time is usually at a premium when it comes to meal prep. The Instant Pot has been absolutely invaluable to my family for creating simple tasty meals fast. Amazingly my kids love this pea soup recipe that I put together. I’ve gone pretty heavy on the split peas which means this soup is more of a green mash which I am pretty sure is why they love it. Anyhow, I’m not going to question it; just going to count it as a dad win. Chris Jordan -
Slow Cooker Split Pea Soup Slow Cooker Split Pea Soup
My wife and I love Split Pea Soup. The weird thing is that I hate peas by themselves. I will systematically remove them from anything that has them. We took an old recipe that she has had for a while and converted it to the slow cooker. After a few tries and tweaks, we have worked out all the kinks and made a great soup. It is so good and it will thicken as time passes. It goes great with some rolls to dip into it. One of the best split pea soups that I have ever had. I am sure that this can be made into a vegan dish, by taking out the ham and replacing the chicken stock with vegetable. Worth the try. This is the prototypical slow cooker recipe. You just put all of the ingredients into the slow cooker, set the time, and forget about it for 8 hours. You can try to forget about it, but the smell will drive you crazy those 8 long hours. Be strong, the wait will be worth it.Enjoy! J.A.B. -
