A Standard Bento Item - Parboiled Spinach with Sesame Seeds

cookpad.japan @cookpad_jp

If you don't measure the sesame properly, the taste ends up being too strong. (Maybe this is just me.) You can get the standard taste with just one teaspoon.

I recommend using coarsely ground sesame seeds, not finely ground.
That produces the right degree of absorption of soy sauce and texture.

An easy-to-remember proportion of ingredients: 2 tbs, 2 tsp., 2 tsp. (or 6 tsp, 2 tsp, 2 tsp.)!
In other words, with any spoon size, you can use a ratio of 3:1:1. Recipe by Maruchiwawa

Ingredients

  1. 1 bunchSpinach
  2. Or substitute with string beans or okra
  3. 2 tbsp★ Grated sesame seeds
  4. 2 tspSoy sauce
  5. 2 tspSugar

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

Parboil the spinach, chill immediately in cold water, then cut into desired lengths.

  2. 2

Combine the ★ ingredients. I recommend using coarsely ground sesame seeds. (The photos show a double proportion of the mixed ★ ingredients since I had a lot of spinach on hand!)

  3. 3

Squeeze out excess water from spinach, then blend with the seasoning right before serving. That's all it takes. The proportion of spinach should seem sparing compared to the amount of seasoning.

  4. 4

People who use this recipe keep telling me they can't stop at just tasting it. Many also tell me that their veggie-hating children gobbled this dish right up!

  5. 5

I buy spinach on sale, then cook up a whole bag for future bento use. Divide it into aluminum foil baking cups and store in the freezer.

  6. 6

(In the wintertime, I pack it in the bento box the night before and store it in the fridge overnight to thaw. In the summertime, I put it in the bento box frozen and it acts as a substitute for refrigerant packs.)
