Butter-Free Cookies

Craving cookies, but since Da Nang is under a 7-day stay-at-home order, I had to experiment with making cookies. Luckily, I had some flour, but no unsalted butter, so I tried a substitute and found it quite successful. I'm sharing it with everyone here.

Craving cookies, but since Da Nang is under a 7-day stay-at-home order, I had to experiment with making cookies. Luckily, I had some flour, but no unsalted butter, so I tried a substitute and found it quite successful. I'm sharing it with everyone here.
Cooking Instructions
- 1
Put the flour in a large bowl and add the salt. If you want to make cocoa-flavored cookies, you can add 1 teaspoon of cocoa powder at this step (1 teaspoon for 1 cup of flour). Then mix the flour mixture well. (In the first picture, I added a bit of cinnamon for aroma; you can add it if you like.)
- 2
In another bowl, combine the oil, sugar, and water. Stir well, and if possible, dissolve the sugar a bit. If you're lazy like me, just mix it up and leave the sugar as is; it will still be nice to see sugar crystals after baking. (The picture shows the sugar just weighed; I forgot to take a picture after stirring, so I'm using this one.)
- 3
Now pour the mixture from step 2 into the flour mixture from step 1 and mix well. Just mix until combined; don't knead too much. (I took a picture of the dough without cocoa while mixing, but somehow it didn't save, so this is the only related picture I have 😁.)
- 4
Now shape the cookies. If you prefer, roll them into balls and flatten them into discs. Roll the dough thin, about 1/5 inch thick.
- 5
Preheat the oven to 320°F (160°C) for 15 minutes.
- 6
Bake the cookies for 10 minutes, flip them over, and bake for another 10 minutes. Once done, let them cool and enjoy 😋.

I wanted to make cookies but I had no butter! So I tried making them with vegetable oil and they turned out alright. The dough contains almonds, so if it crumbles when you cut it, gently push it back into shape. The dough is easy to cut, so you don't have to leave it to chill for so long. For 36 cookies. Recipe by nyonta cookpad.japan -
