Natto Tofu Fritters

I wanted to make something that would be light on the stomach when I wasn't feeling too well.
It's not oily, so it won't sit heavy in your stomach even if you eat a lot.

Draining excess water from the tofu is an extra step, but by doing so beforehand avoids the problem of the mixture being too soft. This is lightly flavored, so for bento use you may want to add more salt. It's also low in calories so it's perfect for people on a diet. You'll be full and satisfied too. Recipe by hima-hima

Ingredients

10 servings
  1. 200 gramsFirm tofu
  2. 1 smallpack - about 50 grams Natto
  3. 1Egg
  4. 2 tspKatakuriko
  5. 1Aonori
  6. 1/2 tspSalt
  7. If making as baby food:
  8. 1 tbspTofu (firm)
  9. 1 tbspSplit bean natto
  10. 1/2 tspKatakuriko
  11. 1Aonori
  12. 1Salt

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl (if the natto came with a sauce packet, put that in too).

  2. 2

Heat oil in a frying pan, and drop spoonfuls of the mixture into the pan.

  3. 3

When each side has been fried to a golden brown color, they are done! They're good on their own, or dipped into ponzu sauce.

  4. 4

If you add ground meat, they will become natto tofu burgers. I think they'd be good with cheese, although that would increase the calories.

  5. 5

[Edit] The mixture is hard to form, so shape them small so that they are easy to flip over.

  6. 6

[Edit] They won't be as fluffy, but if you drain excess moisture from the tofu before making the mixture, it will be easier to form.

  7. 7

I tried it with ginger in the mix as well as on top. Ginger stimulates your digestion.

  8. 8

[As baby food] Mix the split natto, tofu, katakuriko and aonori together, and pan fry in a frying pan coated thinly with vegetable oil. That's all.

  9. 9

[As baby food] You can add a little salt. The mixture is soft, but if you make them small, you can easily flip them.
