This is my second crack at making a yeast risen bread and I'm super pleased with how it turned out. The whole kitchen smelled like basil while it was baking and this is a perfect accompaniment to fresh tomatoes and mozzarella or toasted with a touch of olive oil.

Ingredients

  1. 1 packagesactive dry yeast
  2. 1 cupwarm water
  3. 2 tbspsugar
  4. 3/4 cupparmesan cheese
  5. 2 tbspsoftened butter
  6. 1/4 cupbasil
  7. 3/4 tspsalt
  8. 1/2 tspthyme
  9. 1/4 tsporegano
  10. 1/4 tspgarlic powder
  11. 3 1/2 cupflour

Cooking Instructions

    Add yeast to warm water, stir to dissolve.

    Add sugar to yeast/water mixture

  3. 3

    Leave yeast mixture for 2 min, until foam starts to form

  4. 4

    Add butter, parmesan, salt, basil, thyme, oregano, & garlic powder to yeast mixture. Stir to combine

  5. 5

    Pour mix into stand mixer bowl, attach dough hook and set to medium

  6. 6

    Slowly add 1 1/2 cups of flour.

    Mix on medium for 3 min, scraping down the sides with spatula

  8. 8

    Gradually add the rest of your flour gradually, scraping down the sides as needed. Mix until you have an elastic ball of dough.

    Knead on floured surface until dough is no longer sticky, place in a large greased bowl, turning once to grease top of dough. Cover with plastic.

    Set in warm, dry place to prove until doubled in size, approximately 1 hour

    Punch dough down and roll into 9 by 5 loaf pan, cover and set aside to rise for 30 min

    Preheat oven to 350°F. Bake for 30 to 45 minutes

    Turn out your loaf onto a wire rack to cool
