Apples and Oranges Barbecued Chicken

I have always loved fruits in barbecue sauces. Usually we have guava, pineapple, or papaya and so on, but I always wanted to do apples and Oranges together. So here it is I hope you enjoy this. The sauce mixture mixed with the chicken drippings turned out delicious.
I didn't measure the spices for the chicken because if you get 6 chicken thighs at one place it may be a different size then at another place. So if I put a measurement on the spices you may have over salted or under salted.
Cooking Instructions
- 1
Spray nonstick in the pan. Place the chicken in and season the skin side up. Let this cook 12-15 minutes.
- 2
Mix the mustard, ketchup, and light brown sugar.
- 3
Turn the chicken and add spices to the second side. This will be the first time you turn the chicken after it has cooked 12-15 minutes on the first side. Let this side cook 10-12 minutes undisturbed.
- 4
Peel your orange
- 5
Add the liquid smoke and white sugar.
- 6
Take the inner "skin" off and just keep the pulp.
- 7
Set the chicken on a plate to deglaze the pan.
- 8
Add the orange pulp. Stir breaking up the pulp. Cook the sauce mixture stirring often.
- 9
Remove the chicken and deglaze the pan with the apple juice
- 10
Get it simmering add to sauce mixture.
- 11
Add the chicken back and coat each part of it. Let it rest for 10 minutes covered.
- 12
Serve I hope you enjoy!!

No real story behind this recipe; just want to add a few notes. I personally like to bake chicken better than fry in oil, so when I use this recipe, I modify it. I bake the chicken in the oven with the applesauce and BBQ mixture poured over it. It turns out really good and the flavor is so good too! Adrianna Morton -

Whole chickens are less expensive than store bought cut up chickens. This is how we trim a whole chicken with kitchen scissors in five minutes, marinade overnight, smoke an hour on the barbecue, and make fresh chicken broth and dinner soups from the trimmed pieces and the smoked carcass. Two smoked chicken breasts and two thighs, two legs, and two wing quarters for four dinners, two fresh chicken dinner soups and two smoked chicken dinner soups. Eight dinners from one chicken. Hobby Horseman -

You can get this barbecue sauce at any Asian market, or you can substitute it with another Asian barbecue sauce you can find at your local grocery store.I used a spice grinder to freshly grind my spices, as well as grind my rice to use for the rice flour, but you can use store bought just fine. hands.matt -
