Ingredients

  1. 1/4 cupSplit moong dal
  2. 1 cupQuaker Oats
  3. 2 tbspGhee or oil
  4. 1 tspzeera /cumin seeds
  5. 1 tspWhole pepper
  6. 1Onion Medium sized onion finely chopped
  7. 1 inchGinger piece finely chopped
  8. 1Tomato Medium sized finely chopped
  9. 1 cupMixed vegetables (Carrot, beans and potato)
  10. 1 tspTurmeric powder
  11. 1 tspjeera(cumin) powder
  12. 1 tspCoriander powder
  13. 1 tspblack pepper powder
  14. To tasteSalt
  15. as neededWater

Steps

  1. 1

    Place a vessel over stove and heat ghee/oil and then add whole pepper, cumin seeds. Let the cumin seeds crackle.

  2. 2

    Then add the finely chopped ginger and onion and saute until onions turn translucent.

  3. 3

    Now add the chopped tomatoes and saute until it becomes soft.

  4. 4

    Add the mixed vegetables and saute for a minute. Then add the turmeric powder, pepper powder, jeera/cumin powder, coriander powder and required salt.

  5. 5

    Then add the (washed) split moong dal and oats and saute for few minutes and add 4 cups of water and mix well.

  6. 6

    Remove from flame and place the vessel in cooker.

  7. 7

    Cover the cooker with it's lid and pressure cook for 3 whistles. When pressure settles down on it's own, remove the lid and stir the vegetables oats khichdi and serve hot.
