Varanphala
Also known as Dal Dhokli.
Steps
- 1
Cook 1/2 cup Toor dal in a pressure cooker for 3 whistles.
- 2
Take the flour in a bowl, add salt and water as required to knead a tight dough.
- 3
Take a portion of the dough and roll out using a rolling pin as thick as a roti.
- 4
Now, cut it out into small squares using a knife. Keep these pieces aside on a plate and do the same with the rest of the dough.
- 5
Grind the green chillies, ginger and garlic to a fine paste.
- 6
Heat oil in a kadhai, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, hing, prepared paste and saute for a minute. Add mashed dal, turmeric powder, salt and 3 cups of water. Let it cook well.
- 7
After it comes to a boil, add the prepared phala (squares of the dough) and let it cook for 15 mins on medium flame.
- 8
Tempting and delicious varanphala is ready!
