A very simple and tasty delicacy from the state of Haryana. This spicy pulao is best served with cold raita. Generally baby potatoes are used but I did not have so used the normal sized potatoes by cutting it into 2 halves.

Ingredients

2-3 servings
  • 2 cupsrice
  • 5medium sized potatoes
  • 1large cup of chopped coriander
  • 1/2 cupmint leaves
  • 3-4Green chiles
  • 1 inchginger
  • 5-6garlic cloves
  • 1 teaspoonfennel seed
  • 1 teaspoondried anar dana
  • 1onion
  • 1 teaspoonwhole jeera
  • forgaram masala(2 Green cardamom, 2-3 cloves and 1 small dalchini
  • to tasteGhee and salt

    Peel and cut the potatoes. Prick them with a fork. Now make a paste of coriander, mint, green chiles, ginger and garlic, fennel seeds and dry anar dana. Marinate the potatoes in it for at least an hour.

    Now in a pressure cooker add ghee, then add the whole jeera and whole garam masala. Then add the sliced onions. Saute it till pink. Then add the marinated potatoes. Saute it for 5-7 min. Then add the rice. Saute it. Add the remaining chutney paste. Add salt to taste. Now mix it well. Now add water double and little more than the rice as the potatoes also need to be cooked. Give 2-3 whistle. Let it cool. Serve it with raita. You can make it without pressure cooker also.
