American BBQ sauce comes in many flavors ranging from mustard-based sauce to sweet and sticky Kansas City sauce to vinegar based mop sauces of the East Carolinas.

I find Kansas City too sweet and East Carolina too acidic, but at the same time I like mustard too. So, I created this recipe to be my favorite American BBQ sauce.

Ingredients

  • 12 ozcola
  • 3/4 Cketchup
  • 1/2 Cbrown sugar
  • 1/4 Cworcestershire
  • 1/4 Cbourbon whisky
  • 1/4 Capple cider vinegar (start with 1 Tbsp and add to taste)
  • 2 tspbrown mustard
  • 1 Tbsptabasco
  • 1 tspkosher salt
  • 1 tsponion powder
  • 1 tspgarlic powder
  • 1 tspcoffee grounds

Steps

  1. 1

    Reduce the cola down to about 1/2 volume (6 oz).

  2. 2

    Mix all ingredients together thoroughly

  3. 3

    (optional) Cook the sauce for 5 minutes on medium heat if you want to smooth the vinegar and bourbon notes a bit
