Braised Fish with Figs

Rinse the fish pieces and lightly fry them.

Cut the figs in half and place a layer in a pot. Add 1 tablespoon soy sauce, ginger, chili, and the fried fish. Add another layer of figs on top, then add another tablespoon of soy sauce, black pepper, and chili powder.

Add enough water to just cover the fish, and a little fish sauce. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Turn off the heat.

Let it rest, then simmer again over low heat until the fish and figs are tender.
