Mom's Chili Con Carne

Make a big batch and freeze it for later. Good with toast, potatoes or even rice if that's your thing. This has been a go to of mine for years which is why there are so many options. The quality of the chili powder makes all the difference here.

Cooking Instructions
- 1
Brown onions slowly until brown. Add beef and garlic and brown as well. (optional to pour off fat)
- 2
Add remaining ingredients to large pot. Bring to boil then reduce heat to low. Simmer for 1 hour.
- 3
Watch liquid level as you cook. I often add another can of water.
- 4
You can also add tomato paste or canned tomatoes as well. Or corn if you fancy.
- 5
If mushrooms are canned, add then for the last 10 mi items only.

I was not familiar with Mexican food until I moved to California almost 5 years ago. Here I started learning to cook tacos 🌮, burritos 🌯, enchiladas, quesadillas, and also chili con carne from one of my Indonesian friends who has lived in US for more than 15 years and got married to a Mexican guy.If you like my recipes, please follow my Instagram @jenscookingdiary @jenscookdineandtravel jenscookingdiary -

My oldest son (20yo) called and said he was bored. I said, "Come hang out with me, I'll cook!"Sorry, but I learned to cook for a family of 5, so even though I'm now divorced and live by myself, I still cook for a family of 5!Enjoy and let me know if you have any suggestions. FrioMuerte -
Chili con carne Chili con carne
There are a lot of great things about my city, but access to southwestern ingredients isn't one of them. Especially in our suburb, where it's easier to find a half-dozen different blends of Chinese 5-spice than it is to find 1 ancho chili. That's where this recipe comes in. If you don't already have everything you need to make it in your pantry, you can probably pick it up at your local supermarket. Perfect for when you feel like cooking up a tasty pot of chili.
