This is most commonly offered as naivedyam to hindu dieties during pooja or festivals. Today on the occasion of Vasant Panchami or Basant Panchami or Saraswati pooja, I am sharing this recipe.Vasant Panchami or Saraswati pooja is a festival that marks the preparation for the arrival of spring. Vasant Panchami is the festival dedicated to goddess Saraswati who is the goddess of knowledge, language, music and all arts.
The colour yellow plays a significant role on this day.Hence the foods offered too are yellow in colour.The colour yellow signifies ripening of fruits & crops.

Ingredients

30 minutes
  1. 1/2 CupRava/Sooji/Semolina
  2. 1/2 CupSugar
  3. 2 CupsWater boiling
  4. 5 tspGhee
  5. 1/2 tspCardamom powder
  6. As neededSaffron strands
  7. Pinchyellow food colour(optiona)
  8. as requiredCashews

Cooking Instructions

30 minutes
  1. 1

    Roast cashews in 1 tsp ghee & keep aside

  2. 2

    In the same pan, add the rava and roast until you get a nice aroma and the rava changes colour to light golden.

  3. 3

    Add the boiling water to the pan and stir. Take care there are no lumps formed keep in low flame.
    Cook covered for 3-4 minutes or until the rava is cooked.

    Add the sugar and yellow colour, keep the flame low, and stir well.

  5. 5

    Then Add the cardamom powder,kesar,roasted cashews and remaining ghee.

  6. 6

    Cook till the Sheera comes together for about 4-5 minutes.Serve hot
