Ingredients

  • 100 gramsrice (1 cup)
  • 3 cupswater (about 710 ml)
  • 70 gramssugar (about 1/3 cup)
  • 1 tablespoonghee (clarified butter)
  • 1/4 teaspoonturmeric
  • 1/2 teaspoonsaffron
  • 1 pinchyellow food color or turmeric (optional, I did not use it)
  • 5almonds, cut into 2-3 pieces each
  • 5green cardamom pods, crushed
  • 10raisins
  • 5cashews, cut into 2-3 pieces each
  • 4 teaspoonsgrated coconut
  • 2 teaspoonscharoli nuts

Steps

  1. 1

    Soak the rice for 10 minutes.
    Rinse the rice, then add it to water and bring to a boil over high heat.
    Let it cook.
    Once the rice is cooked, drain it using a strainer and transfer to a bowl.
    Use a bowl that can be placed on the stove. Keep the heat low.

  2. 2

    Add ghee and mix in the sugar.
    Cook on the stove for 2 minutes, then turn off the heat.

  3. 3

    Add cardamom, saffron, cashews, grated coconut, charoli nuts, and almonds.
    For extra flavor, you can fry the dried fruits in ghee first.
    Cover and let it sit for a while so the saffron color infuses.
    Your sweet rice is ready to serve.
    Serve hot.
