Peel the potatoes and slice them into 1/8-inch (2-3 mm) thick rounds. Do not rinse them!

Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C) using conventional heat. In a saucepan, combine the milk, cream, potato slices, garlic, and spices. Cook everything for 10 minutes.

Butter the inside of the ramekins or baking dish, then add the potatoes and the milk-cream mixture.

Bake the ramekins on the middle rack for 30 minutes at 300°F (150°C).
