German Potatoes Made in a Rice Cooker

I'm into rice cooker cooking. If you cook potatoes in a rice cooker, the flavors penetrate it well and they come out dense and floury. So I figured German style potatoes would come out well too.
Depending on the rice cooker, the liquid in the pan may be gone, and the potatoes may be cooked before the program is up. In that case, switch the cooker off a bit earlier.
If you add grainy mustard,it will have a nice sharp refreshing flavor that cuts through the oil. Please try adjusting the amount of mustard to taste. Recipe by Shunnosuke

Cooking Instructions
- 1
Cut the potatoes into quarters. Slice the onion 1cm thick. Cut each bacon slice into 4 pieces.
- 2
Dissolve the chicken soup stock granules in 200 ml of hot water. If you want a sharp, refreshing finish, add the grainy mustard here too.
- 3
Put the butter, soup stock, potatoes, onion, and bacon in the rice cooker in that order. Add some coarsely ground black pepper to taste.
- 4
Switch on the rice cooker as usual.
- 5
When the signal sounds, it's done. Transfer to a serving plate and top with parsley...
- 6
Now you have delicious German potatoes.
- 7
Variation 1: Use pork instead of bacon and add a generous amount. Add 1 tablespoon of soy sauce or ponzu sauce, and it becomes like nikujaga (simmered potatoes and meat).
- 8
I tried cutting a 300g block of bacon into 10 pieces, and using 300 ml of chicken soup stock to make the potatoes. ^^
- 9
Not all the ingredients will be immersed in the soup, but not to worry. Be sure to put the potatoes on the bottom! I added a bay leaf too for its rich flavor.
- 10
This is a version of German potatoes where the bacon is the star.
- 11
If you slice the potatoes rather than quartering them, the flavors penetrate it better maybe? The potato pieces become really tender, and it looks more luxurious. Guest should be happy with it too. ♪
- 12
C-chan made it with sausages. She says sausages are good in this too. ♬
- 13
It was good with ham too, but the ham does get a bit tough...
- 14
Here's a version with mukago (nagaimo yam bulbets) which have a limited season. This was delicious too.
- 15
Here I used 1 teaspoon of soup stock and 1 teaspoon of curry powder for a curry flavored version. ♪ This was great too. ^^

Claypot Rice in Rice Cooker Claypot Rice in Rice Cooker
As its name implies, this rice is cooked in a clay pot and served hot straight from the stove. The rice at the bottom of the pot will form a burnt crust, which makes it so unique. Kabocha Rice Made in Rice Cooker Kabocha Rice Made in Rice Cooker
Simple and fragrant. I made this for iftar and kids complained because it smelled sooo good. I used fermented garlic+candlenut. You can replace it with regular oil, but I reckon it won't smell as good. Maybe you can fry some garlic first and use the oil. I use a type of rice with the ratio of 1:1.5 (rice:water) so you might want to adjust to the type of rice that you usually cook. Angela Mertoyono -

I made this for my son's okuizome (weaning ceremony)Since I didn't have a large steamer, my mom taught me how to cook sekihan using the rice cooker. It turned out to be great, so I decided to post this recipe for future reference.By exposing the boiled water (that the adzuki beans were boiled in) to air, this will promote oxidization and the red color of the sekihan will be more vibrant. After pouring the boiled water into the rice cooker until it reaches the 3-cup line for okowa, you should still have some leftover boiled water! Instead of adding all of the boiled water to the rice cooker, adjust the amount until it hits the 3-cup line. Recipe by YUKI0611 cookpad.japan -
