Basbousa (Arabic: بسبوسة basbūsah) is a sweet, syrup-soaked semolina cake that originated in Egypt, and is also common in other countries. It’s a sweet cake and a crumb cake made specifically to mark a date or event in some areas . I made it for a pregnant friend who has a sweet tooth. She always come to my house searching my fridge for anything sweet that’s y I decided to make something special for her.

  • 1 cupsemolina powder
  • 1/2 cupshredded coconut
  • 1/2 cupveg oil
  • 1/2 cupbuttermilk
  • 1/2 cupyoghurt
  • 1/2 cupsugar
  • 1egg
  • 1/2 tspbaking powder
  • 1/2 cupsugar syrup
  • Sugar syrup
  • 1 cupwater
  • 2 cupsugar
  • 1 tsplemon juice

    Preheat oven and butter your pan

    In a bowl,break egg and, sugar and whisk

    Add oil and yoghurt and whisk

    Add semolina powder, baking powder and shredded coconut whisk to combine well

    Pour into a prepared buttered pan

    Smoothen the surface of your batter and sprinkle peeled almond seeds

    Bake for 25-30 mins in 180 degrees oven

    When ready, pour syrup over basboussa. Put in a chiller till next day for a better taste but not really necessary. Enjoy
