People generally discard outer layer of stalk ,inside you will find a fibrous edible food item which I have used in curry .This recipe is made in suggestions of my mother-in-law.

Ingredients

  • 1Banana stem
  • 2 tablespoonssesame seeds
  • 4red chilli
  • 1 teaspoonmustard seed
  • 1 teaspoonrice flour
  • 1/2 cuptamrind juice
  • 1 teaspoonchana dal
  • 1 teaspoonurad dal
  • pinchtumeric
  • to tastesalt
  • pinchhing
  • oil

Steps

  1. 1

    Remove the skin of the banana stem and peel slightly with the peeler. Then slice into round pieces and then minch the slices into small square pieces.

    In a saucepan add water and add the stem pieces,cook with some salt and turmeric until it turns soft.Then add tamrind juice and cook for 5 more mins.

    To make paste for gravy, take sesame seeds, mustard seeds, red chilli and rice for flour.

    Grind it into smooth paste by adding water.Keep it aside.

  5. 5

    Pour the paste into cooked stem pieces while on flame. cook for five mins till it thickens. Remove it from stove.

    Heat 1 tsp of oil and add 1/4 tsp chana dal,1/4 tsp of urad dal.1 red chilli,pinch of hing.Add this seasoning to the curry.

    This curry is ready to serve with hot rice and sambhar.
