Moriyo / Sama Chawal ki khichdi

Mariyo is also known as sama chawal. It is used during fasting as a main ingredient for many dishes. The simplest dish you can make using moriyo is simple khichdi which can go really well with a bowl of curd and some potato or suran subji. It can be even served on its own as a one pot meal. Heat ghee in a pot and add cumin to it. When it gets brown, add curry leaves, green chillies, ginger and chopped potatoes to it. Mix everything well and add crushed groundnuts to it. Cook it on medium heat for 2 minutes. Now add washed moriyo to it and mix it well.

Add 3 cups of water to it along with rock salt and let it cook on medium heat. You can cover the lid while it is cooking. When it is almost ready add curd mixed with some water to it and mix it well. Cook it for another 5 to 8 minutes on medium heat.

When it is cooked completely, add coriander leaves and turn off the heat.

Serve moriyo or sama chawal ki khichdi along with curd and potato / suran subji.
