This is an authentic Maharashtrian dish of rice and fresh green pigeon peas. It is a seasonal dish. Fresh pigeon peas are available only in winter so we can call it a winter special dish. I have used minimum Spices to maintain the original taste of fresh peas.

Ingredients

  1. 1 cupfresh green pigeon peas
  2. 1 cupbasmati rice
  3. as per requirementOil
  4. as requiredSalt to taste
  5. 1 tspturmeric powder
  6. 1 tspgaram masala (goda masala)
  7. 1 tspred chilli powder
  8. 2onion
  9. 2,3green chillies
  10. 1/2 bowlfinely chopped coriander leaves
  11. 1lemon
  12. 1 tspturmeric powder
  13. 1 tbspghee(clarified butter)
  14. as requiredWater

Cooking Instructions

    First remove peas(tuvar) from pods, if you get ready made that can be used, wash and keep aside

    Now wash the rice with water 2,3 times, rinse and keep aside

  3. 3

    Make a paste of garlic, ginger, green chillies and coriander leaves

  4. 4

    Now heat oil in a pressure cooker

  5. 5

    Add cumin, onion slices

  6. 6

    Saute till it turns translucent

    Now add ready green paste

  9. 9

    Saute till aromatic

  10. 10

    Now add all the dry spices, washed fresh pigeon peas and rice

  11. 11

    Mix everything well

    Saute for 2min

    Now add 2 cups of hot water, 1tbsp ghee and lemon juice

  14. 14

    Combine everything well

    Close the lid of the pressure cooker

  16. 16

    Cook for 10 to 15min on low flame

    Turn off the flame, once it gets cooled, open the lid, sprinkle finely chopped coriander leaves

  18. 18

    Serve hot rice with dahi kadhi(hot and spicy yoghurt soup)
