Tteokbokki (Korean Spicy Rice Cake)

Tteokbokki (Korean Spicy Rice Cake)
Steps
- 1
For preparing Tomatoes Chilli Sauce:-
In a large pot boil the water. Then blanch Tomatoes and Red Chilies in boiled water. Cover and cook about 5 to 7 min or until tomatoes skin began to removed slightly. - 2
Switch off the gas. Drain and remove tomatoes and chillies from pot and let it cool for 10 mins. Remove tomatoes skin.
- 3
In Mixer Jar first grind Tomatoes and chillies together. Then add garlic, ginger, coriander stem and grind again. Lastly add ketchup, soya sauce, green chilli sauce, vinegar. Grind to make fine paste. Keep aside.
- 4
For preparing Rice Cake:-
Boil some water for kneading rice dough. Keep aside
Combine rice flour and 1/2 tsp salt in a bowl. Mix well. Gradually add about 3/4cup (200 ml) hot water. First start mixing with spoon to make a semi hard dough. - 5
Then knead with your hand and make smooth hard dough. Keep aside cover with cloth for 10 min. After 10 mins remove dough and knead. Apply little oil on dough and knead by hand. The dough should be pliable and smooth. Divide into 3 or 4 equal parts.
- 6
If required then coat a little oil on palm and gently roll it into long roll shape. Around 1 cm or 1.5 cm in diameter(breadth). Remove both end sides. Then cut all equally into 5 cm long pieces. Or the length should be around your middle finger. Thus similarly prepare all Rice Cake (tteokbokki).
- 7
Now in broad pan add water and start boiling on higher flame.
Then add all rice cake in boiling water. Switch gas to medium flame. Cover and cook for 5 -7 minutes. Then after 7 mins remove lid and switch off gas. Drain and transfer rice cake to plate. - 8
Now your Tomato Chilli Sauce and Rice Cake is ready.
- 9
Heat 1 Tbsp oil in a pan over medium flame. Add sesame seeds and stir well for 1 min. Then add prepared Tomatoes Chilli Sauce. Stir continuously for 2 min.
- 10
Next add black pepper powder, Kashmiri red chilli powder and mix well. Next add Onion Slices and mix well with sauce.
- 11
Transfer all rice cake into the pan. Add 300 ml water and mix well. Then garnish with spring onion or Coriander leaves and mix well.
- 12
Now switch gas on higher level and cook for 7-8 min or until water is completely reduced. Then add salt as per taste. Switch off the gas. Transfer on plate and serve it hot.
- 13
Note :-(1) While adding salt lastly, remember that while preparing rice cake you have already added salt in it and soya sauce also contains salt in it. So add salt accordingly as per taste.
- 14
(2) Stir frequently so the rice cakes don't stick to the bottom of the pan.
(3) If apply oil while rolling dough then rice cake will not stick to one another.
