California Farm Distilled Water

Boiling water kills bacteria, but the water still contains all the impurities and farm chemicals from ground water and acid rain water, and wild fire retardant chemicals, a big concern of ours.
This lil pure copper stovetop distiller, called an alembic, a medieval scientific instrument, makes one quart of distilled pure water per hour, it only evaporates the pure water parts to steam, cools and catches it. Pure H2O water. Never any rust, it is all copper.
The distillation pan holds 4 quarts, 4 liters. It produces 1 quart, 1 liter per hour of luke warm distilled water, 3.8 liters total. Every eight minutes, the steam coil that turns steam into distilled water heats up and needs to be cooled with 2 liters of cold tapwater. By draining the heated coolwater in a bucket, we reuse, only takes one bucket, 5 gallons, 40 liters of cooling water.

Cooking Instructions
- 1
Install and disinfect with test run.
- 2
Measure rate of production with remote thermometer on your stove top burner
- 3
Dispose of test production distilled water to cleanse alembic. Measure and record performance. Rinse hoses when disassembling.
- 4
Suggestion: instead of manually refilling the cooling pot every eight minutes, you can hook up a mini aquarium pump (amazon, $9) to the cooling pot inlet and outlet hoses. Set your timer for 3 1/2 hours, watch the thermometer rise when the distiller pot gets empty and the gallon distilled water carafe is full. Turn off gas before distillation pot overheats, and cool.
