In our region of the Levant, we call this dish 'Tassqiyyeh with clarified butter.' It's especially delicious for Friday breakfast or as part of a Ramadan breakfast spread.

Mix the yogurt with the garlic, tahini or hummus, and salt. Adjust the seasoning to taste, and whisk until smooth and creamy.

Arrange the cubed pita bread in a serving dish.

Pour the hot chickpeas with some of their cooking water over the bread, stirring gently. Add as much chickpea water as you like.

Pour the yogurt mixture over the bread, then garnish with ground cumin, paprika, and a spoonful of whole chickpeas, as desired.

Heat the clarified butter well, add the nuts if using, and pour over the dish. Enjoy!
