My mom is really great at cooking Indonesian dishes. But I'm not yet skilled with dishes that have a lot of spices; I prefer making cakes and pasta, hehe... But this time, I tried cooking goldfish with instructions from my mom. Luckily, the goldfish was very fresh, caught by my dad who loves fishing :-p

Ingredients

4 servings
  • 2goldfish
  • 1 tablespoonlime juice
  • 1/4 tablespoonsalt
  • 1 pieceturmeric
  • 5 clovesgarlic
  • 10candlenuts
  • 1 pieceginger
  • 3bay leaves
  • 3kaffir lime leaves
  • 1 piecegalangal
  • 1 stalklemongrass
  • 1tomato
  • 5green chilies
  • 2red chilies
  • green bird's eye chilies, to taste
  • 2scallions
  • salt, to taste
  • sugar, to taste
  • as neededcooking oil,
  • 3/4 cupwater (200 ml)

Steps

30 minutes
  1. 1

    Clean the goldfish. Cut into 3 parts. Coat with lime juice and salt. Fry in hot oil until slightly dry.

  2. 2

    Grind the spices: turmeric, garlic, candlenuts, and ginger.

  3. 3

    Heat a pan, add cooking oil. Sauté the ground spices until fragrant, then add water.

  4. 4

    Add bay leaves, kaffir lime leaves, galangal, and lemongrass. Stir well.

  5. 5

    Add tomato, green chilies, red chilies, and bird's eye chilies.

  6. 6

    Add sugar and salt to taste. Taste and adjust the seasoning.

  7. 7

    Add the fried goldfish. Stir well. Note: Tomato can be replaced with bilimbi.
