One More Side Dish: Mackerel Cabbage Sesame Salad

This is a quick and healthy side dish. Use the liquid from the canned mackerel to get plenty of omega-3 fatty acids.
Recipe background: I wanted an easy way to get more unsaturated fatty acids like DHA and EPA, so I created this simple recipe using the whole can of mackerel, including the liquid.

Steps
- 1
Tear the cabbage leaves into bite-sized pieces. Use about this much cabbage for one can of mackerel.
- 2
Blanch the cabbage briefly, then drain well. The volume will shrink a lot.
- 3
Pour just the liquid from the canned mackerel into a bowl. Add all the ingredients marked with ☆ (ginger, sugar, vinegar, dashi, soy sauce, ground sesame) and mix well. Add the mackerel and gently break it up.
- 4
Squeeze the excess water from the cabbage and add it to the bowl.
- 5
Toss everything together, breaking up the mackerel as you mix. It's ready to serve! For the photo, I sprinkled toasted sesame seeds on top after plating.
