Ingredients

30 min + 30 minutes
3 servings
  • 1 cupchana dal
  • 1/4 tspturmeric
  • 1/2 tspsalt
  • 1 tbspghee
  • 3 cupwater
  • For Dal
  • 2 tablespoonsoil
  • 1 teaspooncumin seeds
  • 1 pinchhing
  • 2dry red chilli
  • 1green chilli finely chopped
  • 3-4 clovesgarlic paste
  • 1onion finely chopped
  • 1tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoonred chilli powder
  • 1/2 teaspoonturmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoondhaniya jira
  • 1/2 teaspoonSalt (as needed)
  • For Tadka
  • 2 tbspghee
  • 1 tspcumin
  • 1 pinchchilli powder
  • 1 teaspoonchopped coriander leaves

Steps

30 min + 30 minutes
  1. 1

    Firstly, wash and soak 1 cup chana dal for 30 minutes. Then Transfer the soaked dal to the pressure cooker.
    Add ¼ tsp turmeric, ½ tsp salt, 1 tbsp ghee and 3 cup water.Cover and pressure cook for 4-5 whistles or until the dal is cooked well.Once the pressure is released, check whether the dal is well-cooked or not. Keep aside.

    Heat oil in a pan, add cumin seeds and asafoetida. Add red chilli.let it sizzle. Add green chillies, garlic paste and chopped onions. Saute until it soften. Add tomato paste. Mix it well.

    Now add all the spices and let it cook until oil releases. Add boiled chana dal and stirring well. Let it cover and simmer for 4- 5 minutes. Take it off.

    Now heat ghee in small fry pan,add cumin seeds and red chilli powder to it.off the flame and add thi tadka on prepared Dal.add chopped coriander.serve the Chana dal tadka hot with rice or any Indian flatbread.
